Hypnosis for redundancy stress

Steady yourself after losing a job, and separate what happened to your role from what is true about you.

This time is for sorting the job ending from your worth, because the two are not the same.

It spends most of the recording on the difference between a role ending and a life stopping, and it offers a clear, quiet space when the old routine is gone. There is no talk of strategy or applications here.

The silence in the house on a Tuesday morning is different when you are not expected anywhere.

It is easy for the shape of the week to dissolve, so that one day looks very much like the last and the idea of a next role feels like something other people do.

The loss of a structure is often felt before the loss of the income, and it is that lack of a frame that makes the days hard to fill.

What’s in it

Your confidence and your routine back, and the clear head a good search actually needs.

Why do it

A few quiet minutes stop the loss of a job from becoming a verdict on your value.

Timeline: Start to Finish

The build repeats the separation of your worth from your role. The suggestion block spends its time on this distinction so you rehearse the difference between the job and your value.

3 of the 4 stages are named techniques with a published origin, credited under each.

  1. InductionStage 16 min

    Progressive Muscle Relaxation

A classic head-to-toe relaxation. Tense and release, or simply soften, each muscle group in sequence.

After Edmund Jacobson PMR (1929); Dave Elman Hypnotherapy · what progressive muscle relaxation is

  2. DeepenerStage 23 min

    Staircase Descent

Visualized stairs descending into a deeper level of trance. Each step takes you down.

After Ledochowski, Deep Trance Training Manual

  3. Suggestion ScriptStage 310 min

    After Redundancy — Balanced

  4. AwakeningStage 42 min

    Calm Alert Awakening

Awake and present, but calm rather than energized. Good for evening or pre-meeting use.

    After Yapko, Trancework

Three ways to say it

The same goal, written three ways. You pick the one that sounds like something you would believe — and you can hear a different one tomorrow without rebuilding anything.

Balanced

Steady yourself after losing a job, and separate what happened to your role from what is true about you. The default.

Future self

Meet the version of you who is steady and capable while you find the next thing.

New identity

Step into being steady and capable while you find the next thing, starting now.

Where it sits

Earning, spending, asking, and the story you tell yourself about both.

Before you press play

  • This one asks for a bit of care. In the app it opens with a consent step before anything plays.
  • Not the right session right now if any of these are live for you: acute financial crisis; current depressive episode.

Hypnosis is not for everyone. If you have epilepsy, a psychotic illness, or you are under psychiatric care, talk to your clinician before using this — here or anywhere.

Why this works — and what the research actually says

Group-level, not session-level: no study has tested this exact session, and we will not pretend otherwise. Every source below was opened and read on 2026-08-25 before it was quoted.

Why do it as hypnosis?

A sudden stop leaves the mind spinning on the same few facts because it has nowhere else to put them.

What this offers is a way to step out of the loop for twenty minutes and rehearse a different distinction, over and over.

It is not a discussion and it does not change what happened; it simply gives your attention a single, steady task that separates what is true about you from the role that is gone.

What 20 years of meta-analyses actually found

Hypnosis as a whole has been studied a great deal. The strongest results are for pain and for people going through medical procedures, and the quality of the studies varies enormously. Some found large effects.

Some found nothing at all.

  • 49 reviews, covering 261 separate randomised trials
  • Strongest evidence: pain, and medical procedures
  • Study quality is very uneven, and the authors say so

Worth knowing: The same overview rates only nine of those 49 meta-analyses as high methodological quality and 26 of them as critically low, and notes that 28 reported nothing at all about safety.

It is the best map of the field that exists, and it says the field is uneven.

The exact wording and figures

A 2024 overview pooled 49 meta-analyses covering 261 separate randomised controlled trials of hypnosis. Effects ran from d = -0.04 to d = 2.72, and just under two-thirds of the reported effects reached significance.

The strongest evidence was for people undergoing medical procedures and for pain.

An overview of reviews, which is a study of other studies rather than new patients. Useful because it is the widest honest view of where hypnosis has evidence and where it does not.
