The Dawn Ferry
A slow crossing at first light, and a long stretch in the middle where you have left one shore and not yet reached the other.
This recording begins at first light on a slow ferry, where you leave one shore behind and spend a long time with just water before the next coast appears.
The crossing is steady, the air is cool, and the only task is to notice the light changing on the waves. It settles you into the middle of a transition.
A slow vessel moving across water as the first light begins to show. You are out on the open water with the land behind you and the opposite bank still some way off.
There is nothing to steer and nothing to fix as the engine hums underneath.
What’s in it
A slow crossing at first light, and a long stretch in the middle where you have left one shore and not yet reached the other.
Why do it
The gradual change and the liminal space encourage the mind to relax and explore possibilities.

Where it sits
Liminal places that carry their own rhythm: a night train, the deep ocean, one bell fading, the middle of a crossing.
Why going here does anything
The middle of a crossing is a useful place to be because you have already departed but not yet arrived. That gap gives attention a single specific job which is to notice the gradual shift from dark to light.
There is only the motion of the boat and the water passing by.
