Water & Shores

The Hot Spring

You stand on a frozen volcanic ledge, gazing down into a dark, steaming hot spring under a vast, starless sky.

The Hot Spring places you on a frozen ledge of volcanic stone overlooking a dark, circular pool. You watch thick steam rise from the obsidian water and then step down into the heat.

The session asks you to stand on a submerged shelf and let the warmth soak into your bones while you drift in the vapour.

You are on a rough ledge of ancient, dark stone, the ground solid and unyielding underfoot. It is bitterly cold, with a silence broken only by your own breathing.

Before you, a perfectly still, circular pool of dark water releases a thick, heavy steam that smells of sulfur and iron.

What’s in it

This session guides you to observe the rising steam and then carefully descend into the intensely hot water of the volcanic pool.

Why do it

The journey is a practice in experiencing stark contrasts between heat and cold, and observing the quiet, geological forces of the earth.

Where this place comes from

Hot springs feature in many cultures' healing traditions, from Japan's onsen to Iceland's geothermal baths. What differs here is the stark framing: the cold-dark contrast makes each sensation land cleanly.

The script borrows volcanic imagery from both geology and guided imagery's use of underground journeys, where descent brings containment.

Questions people ask

What if I feel too hot in the water?

The audio guides you to step onto a submerged stone ledge within the pool, where you can feel the warmth without being overwhelmed.

Will I get stuck in the hot spring?

The session ends with a gentle return to the surface, and you can stop the audio or open your eyes at any time.

Is the volcanic water dangerously hot?

The journey focuses on the sensation of warmth, and the audio guides you to stay on the submerged ledge, avoiding any extreme heat.

Is the hot spring real or am I imagining it?

The session invites you to explore the contrast between cold and warmth through guided imagery, blending imagination with sensory focus.

Where it sits

Rivers, warm springs, hidden tides, and whole worlds beneath the water.

Why going here does anything

This session moves your attention from the cold, sharp air on the frozen stone to the immediate, penetrating heat of the water.

The contrast between the icy ledge and the molten depths creates a distinct shift to follow. Once you are submerged, the focus narrows to the simple, steady sensation of being held by that continuous warmth.
