The Tide Pool

Give one rock pool your whole attention until it becomes a world, then watch the tide come back for it.

You settle by a rock pool and watch the water inside it until that small space feels like the whole world. The tide comes back in slowly and you watch that too without having to move or speak.

The session asks you to look closely at one thing.

You stand by a single rock pool and give it all your attention until it becomes a world. There is water in a hollow and a tide that is not yet here, and you are not asked to do anything about the sea.

You simply watch the small life inside the pool and notice the water returning very slowly.

What’s in it

A rock pool to focus on, and the tide coming back to reclaim it.

Why do it

By concentrating on something small, you can let go of larger concerns as the natural world continues its cycle.

Where it sits

Liminal places that carry their own rhythm: a night train, the deep ocean, one bell fading, the middle of a crossing.

Why going here does anything

The tide coming back to reclaim the pool is a long slow movement that occupies the mind just by being there. Holding one small thing in view allows the other thoughts to step back for a moment.

This session spends its time on the rock pool and the water, letting the natural cycle keep the rhythm steady.
