Hypnosis for alcohol moderation

Drink less, with greater clarity. Choose what serves you.

Alcohol Moderation is a self-hypnosis session for when the evening starts on its own, before you have finished deciding. It rehearses a stillness in the kitchen so you notice the pause between the urge and the pour.

The aim is to sit with that feeling and let it settle.

The glass often fills up without a real decision being made. It is just the thing that happens at six in the evening, the way the television goes on.

This recording asks you to sit with that moment before you pour and to rehearse leaving the bottle on the side instead.

What’s in it

A clear pause before you pour and the calm to choose what actually serves you.

Why do it

A few minutes here puts the choice back in your hands, so the drink is yours to take or leave.

What you’ll hear in the Alcohol Moderation session

The session builds a pause between the urge to drink and the act of pouring, turning an automatic routine into a deliberate choice. It practices sitting with that moment rather than fighting it.

You are discovering a clear pause before you pour and the calm to choose what actually serves you

A few minutes right now puts the choice back in your hands, so the drink is yours to take or leave

This is about finding a new rhythm in your evening, one where you move with intention instead of rushing through a routine that no longer fits

You have the power to slow down the moment between the urge and the pour, creating a space where you are fully in control

You are not fighting against yourself; you are simply learning to sit with the moment and let it settle before you act

You can feel a sense of ease begin to unfold within you as you realize that you have options

You are free to observe your thoughts and feelings without immediately needing to fix them or numb them

This is your time to rehearse a stillness in the kitchen that changes everything

  • You are discovering a clear pausethe moment before action becomes a choice — not yet a decision
  • move with intention instead of rushingthe shift from autopilot to deliberate action
  • sit with the moment and let it settlethe urge is not fought, just observed — another kind of strength

Timeline: Start to Finish

This build slows the day down to rehearse the pause. The suggestion block spends its time letting the urge pass, so that you can take it or leave it.

Why this works — and what the research actually says

Group-level, not session-level: no study has tested this exact session, and we will not pretend otherwise. Every source below was opened and read on 2026-08-25 before it was quoted.

Why do it as hypnosis?

A clear pause before you pour is a difficult thing to hold onto when the day is noisy and the glass is right there.

This session uses that quiet to rehearse the moment of choice, to spend time on the calm that lets you see what actually serves you.

It is not a fight against the urge; it is a separate practice in noticing, done when nothing else is competing for you.

Quitting smoking: the honest answer is that nobody knows yet

Cochrane grades medical evidence for a living. It reviewed 14 trials of hypnotherapy for quitting smoking, covering 1,926 people followed for at least six months.

Its verdict was not that it works, and not that it fails — it was that there is not enough good evidence to tell. If there is a benefit, they say it is small at most.

  • 14 randomised trials, 1,926 people, followed six months or more
  • Verdict: insufficient evidence either way
  • Only 1 of the 14 trials was judged at low risk of bias

Worth knowing: The review rates its own evidence as ranging "from low to very low certainty, as there was not enough information and many of the studies had issues with their designs".

One study was judged at low risk of bias overall, ten at high risk and three unclear. On safety, most studies did not report whether adverse events were even collected.

The exact wording and figures

A Cochrane review pooled 14 randomised controlled trials with 1,926 participants.

Its conclusion: "There is insufficient evidence to determine whether hypnotherapy is more effective for smoking cessation than other forms of behavioural support or unassisted quitting.

If a benefit is present, current evidence suggests the benefit is small at most."

We sell sessions for this. We are showing you the review that declines to endorse them, because you should know what the evidence says before you decide.

Three ways to say it

Same goal, written three ways: pick the voice you would believe when the bottle is on the counter and the habit is asking you not to think.

Balanced

Find the pause before you pour, let the urge pass, and choose what actually serves you. The default.

Questions people ask about Alcohol Moderation

Will this work if I'm sceptical about hypnosis?

You do not have to believe in it. The session asks you to sit with a moment and notice it, which works regardless of what you think hypnosis is.

How is this different from just trying to drink less?

Willpower fights the urge. This rehearses the gap before the pour, giving the choice back rather than relying on a nightly battle.

What if I fall asleep during the session?

The session is designed for waking relaxation. If you fall asleep, the rehearsal stops and you can simply play it again when alert.

Is this safe alongside other support for alcohol?

This is a single session, not a programme. It can sit alongside other approaches but is not a replacement for medical or clinical support.

Does it stop me wanting a drink entirely?

No. It builds a pause and a choice. You may still drink, but the decision will be yours rather than the routine's.

Where it sits

The things you keep doing, and stopping doing them.

Before you press play

  • Not the right session right now if any of these are live for you: active thoughts of suicide or self-harm.

Hypnosis is not for everyone. If you have epilepsy, a psychotic illness, or you are under psychiatric care, talk to your clinician before using this — here or anywhere.
