Hypnosis for healing a breakup
Move through grief into wholeness.
This session is for when a shared life has stopped and the quiet feels too large. It spends its time on the act of letting go, rehearsing the moment you set the heavy part down and turn toward the rest of your day.
You do not have to hurry the process or fix anything now.
The morning routine stops working. You stand by the kettle waiting for it to boil and realise you have no idea what to do with your hands now that the phone is not in them.
You look at the space on the sofa where someone used to sit and the whole day seems to hinge on walking past it without looking down.
What’s in it
A gentle space to honor the loss, set down the holding on, and come home to yourself whole.
Why do it
Healing moves at its own pace, so a few kind minutes here softens the ache and opens the door to what is next.

Timeline: Start to Finish
The middle of this track rehearses the moment of letting go. It spends most of the time on the act of setting down the holding on with kindness, so that the idea of being whole on your own gets some repetition.
3 of the 4 stages are named techniques with a published origin, credited under each.

Three ways to say it
The same goal, written three ways. You pick the one that sounds like something you would believe — and you can hear a different one tomorrow without rebuilding anything.
Balanced
Honor the loss, release the holding on with kindness, and come home to yourself whole. The default.
Future self
Meet the you ahead who carries this gently and lets a new chapter open in its own time.
New identity
Be the person who is whole on their own now, tender toward the past and open ahead.
Where it sits
Other people: the ones you keep, the ones you lost, the ones you avoid.
Before you press play
- This one asks for a bit of care. In the app it opens with a consent step before anything plays.
Hypnosis is not for everyone. If you have epilepsy, a psychotic illness, or you are under psychiatric care, talk to your clinician before using this — here or anywhere.
Why this works — and what the research actually says
Group-level, not session-level: no study has tested this exact session, and we will not pretend otherwise. Every source below was opened and read on 2026-08-25 before it was quoted.
Why do it as hypnosis?
Grief is not a task you can finish early by thinking harder. The only way through is to spend time with it, which is exactly what the build here makes space for. It does not rush you past the loss.
It settles you in a quiet room and spends that time looking at the ache directly, rehearsing the moment when you finally set down the holding on.
What 20 years of meta-analyses actually found
Hypnosis as a whole has been studied a great deal. The strongest results are for pain and for people going through medical procedures, and the quality of the studies varies enormously. Some found large effects.
Some found nothing at all.
- 49 reviews, covering 261 separate randomised trials
- Strongest evidence: pain, and medical procedures
- Study quality is very uneven, and the authors say so
Worth knowing: The same overview rates only nine of those 49 meta-analyses as high methodological quality and 26 of them as critically low, and notes that 28 reported nothing at all about safety.
It is the best map of the field that exists, and it says the field is uneven.
The exact wording and figures
A 2024 overview pooled 49 meta-analyses covering 261 separate randomised controlled trials of hypnosis. Effects ran from d = -0.04 to d = 2.72, and just under two-thirds of the reported effects reached significance.
The strongest evidence was for people undergoing medical procedures and for pain.
An overview of reviews, which is a study of other studies rather than new patients. Useful because it is the widest honest view of where hypnosis has evidence and where it does not.
