Hypnosis for relationship jealousy

Quiet the checking and comparing, and feel secure in your own place.

Relationship Jealousy is a session for the urge to check phones and the habit of comparing yourself to others.

It settles the body first, then spends most of the time on a feeling of safety in your own place, without needing to change anything else. You can choose how the voice speaks to you.

You check the phone screen and find nothing, but you check again five minutes later. The mind picks at the same small details of the day, turning a short delay into a long story about where you stand.

This is not really about what is happening now, but about what might be happening somewhere else.

What’s in it

A calmer mind, an end to the checking, and a relationship that feels safe again.

Why do it

A few quiet minutes settle the insecurity underneath, which is where the jealousy actually comes from.

Timeline: Start to Finish

The middle suggestion block is designed to rehearse a steady sense of place. It spends time on the idea of a secure standing, repeating it until the checking feels like a habit you have outgrown.

3 of the 4 stages are named techniques with a published origin, credited under each.

  1. InductionStage 16 min

    Progressive Muscle Relaxation

A classic head-to-toe relaxation. Tense and release, or simply soften, each muscle group in sequence.

After Edmund Jacobson PMR (1929); Dave Elman Hypnotherapy · what progressive muscle relaxation is

  2. DeepenerStage 23 min

    Staircase Descent

Visualized stairs descending into a deeper level of trance. Each step takes you down.

After Ledochowski, Deep Trance Training Manual

  3. Suggestion ScriptStage 310 min

    Relationship Jealousy — Balanced

  4. AwakeningStage 42 min

    Calm Alert Awakening

Awake and present, but calm rather than energized. Good for evening or pre-meeting use.

    After Yapko, Trancework

Three ways to say it

The same goal, written three ways. You pick the one that sounds like something you would believe — and you can hear a different one tomorrow without rebuilding anything.

Balanced

Quiet the checking and comparing, and feel secure in your own place. The default.

Future self

Meet the version of you who is secure in yourself and steady in your relationship.

New identity

Step into being secure in yourself and steady in your relationship, starting now.

Where it sits

Other people: the ones you keep, the ones you lost, the ones you avoid.

Before you press play

  • Not the right session right now if any of these are live for you: any relationship where you feel unsafe.

Hypnosis is not for everyone. If you have epilepsy, a psychotic illness, or you are under psychiatric care, talk to your clinician before using this — here or anywhere.

Why this works — and what the research actually says

Group-level, not session-level: no study has tested this exact session, and we will not pretend otherwise. Every source below was opened and read on 2026-08-25 before it was quoted.

Why do it as hypnosis?

The checking and the worry are both rehearsals your mind is already very good at. This uses the same system of rehearsal but points it at a different story, at a time when nothing else is asking for your attention.

It does not remove the other person from the picture; it changes the story you rehearse about them while you sit still.

What 20 years of meta-analyses actually found

Hypnosis as a whole has been studied a great deal. The strongest results are for pain and for people going through medical procedures, and the quality of the studies varies enormously. Some found large effects.

Some found nothing at all.

  • 49 reviews, covering 261 separate randomised trials
  • Strongest evidence: pain, and medical procedures
  • Study quality is very uneven, and the authors say so

Worth knowing: The same overview rates only nine of those 49 meta-analyses as high methodological quality and 26 of them as critically low, and notes that 28 reported nothing at all about safety.

It is the best map of the field that exists, and it says the field is uneven.

The exact wording and figures

A 2024 overview pooled 49 meta-analyses covering 261 separate randomised controlled trials of hypnosis. Effects ran from d = -0.04 to d = 2.72, and just under two-thirds of the reported effects reached significance.

The strongest evidence was for people undergoing medical procedures and for pain.

An overview of reviews, which is a study of other studies rather than new patients. Useful because it is the widest honest view of where hypnosis has evidence and where it does not.
