Hypnosis for partner appreciation

Remember why, and let it soften how you speak.

This session is for the person you live with and the small things that go unnoticed when you are tired. It spends time on the reasons you chose them and brings that warmth to the front of your mind.

The aim is a softer tone in the next conversation you have.

The usual day with your partner is made of small moments: the dishes left in the sink or a tone of voice that sets you on edge before the sentence is finished.

It is not that you have forgotten what you value, but that the daily noise makes it hard to see the person you chose.

The reasons you stay together can feel very distant when the small aggravations are the only things getting your full focus.

What’s in it

A warmer eye for the person you live with, a shorter fuse defused, and the reasons you chose them back in view.

Why do it

Long love is mostly attention, and attention drifts toward the irritations unless it is deliberately pointed somewhere better.

Timeline: Start to Finish

The middle section turns your attention toward the person you live with. It highlights the reasons you chose them to make that view easier to return to later.

3 of the 4 stages are named techniques with a published origin, credited under each.

  1. InductionStage 16 min

    Progressive Muscle Relaxation

A classic head-to-toe relaxation. Tense and release, or simply soften, each muscle group in sequence.

After Edmund Jacobson PMR (1929); Dave Elman Hypnotherapy · what progressive muscle relaxation is

  2. DeepenerStage 23 min

    Staircase Descent

Visualized stairs descending into a deeper level of trance. Each step takes you down.

After Ledochowski, Deep Trance Training Manual

  3. Suggestion ScriptStage 310 min

    Partner Appreciation — Balanced

  4. AwakeningStage 42 min

    Calm Alert Awakening

Awake and present, but calm rather than energized. Good for evening or pre-meeting use.

    After Yapko, Trancework

Three ways to say it

The same goal, written three ways. You pick the one that sounds like something you would believe — and you can hear a different one tomorrow without rebuilding anything.

Balanced

Remember why, and let it soften how you speak. The default.

Future self

Meet the version of you who is warm toward the person you share your life with.

New identity

Step into being warm toward the person you share your life with, starting now.

Where it sits

Other people: the ones you keep, the ones you lost, the ones you avoid.

Before you press play

  • This one asks for a bit of care. In the app it opens with a consent step before anything plays.
  • Not the right session right now if any of these are live for you: a relationship involving abuse or coercive control.

Hypnosis is not for everyone. If you have epilepsy, a psychotic illness, or you are under psychiatric care, talk to your clinician before using this — here or anywhere.

Why this works — and what the research actually says

Group-level, not session-level: no study has tested this exact session, and we will not pretend otherwise. Every source below was opened and read on 2026-08-25 before it was quoted.

Why do it as hypnosis?

You cannot simply decide to be grateful, especially when you are annoyed. This works because it creates a quiet space where nothing else is competing for your attention.

It directs your focus back to the good things and holds it there for a while. It is a rehearsal of that softer view, so it is easier to find it again when you are both in the room.

What 20 years of meta-analyses actually found

Hypnosis as a whole has been studied a great deal. The strongest results are for pain and for people going through medical procedures, and the quality of the studies varies enormously. Some found large effects.

Some found nothing at all.

  • 49 reviews, covering 261 separate randomised trials
  • Strongest evidence: pain, and medical procedures
  • Study quality is very uneven, and the authors say so

Worth knowing: The same overview rates only nine of those 49 meta-analyses as high methodological quality and 26 of them as critically low, and notes that 28 reported nothing at all about safety.

It is the best map of the field that exists, and it says the field is uneven.

The exact wording and figures

A 2024 overview pooled 49 meta-analyses covering 261 separate randomised controlled trials of hypnosis. Effects ran from d = -0.04 to d = 2.72, and just under two-thirds of the reported effects reached significance.

The strongest evidence was for people undergoing medical procedures and for pain.

An overview of reviews, which is a study of other studies rather than new patients. Useful because it is the widest honest view of where hypnosis has evidence and where it does not.
