Weight & Eating
Hypnosis for emotional eating
Feel what you feel without feeding it.
Emotional Eating is a practice for the times you reach for food to quiet the noise in your head rather than to feed hunger.
It spends most of the time on the pause itself, rehearsing sitting with the feeling directly and keeping the hands still. The aim is to meet the noise without feeding it.
The packet is open and the food is gone before the thought even arrives. It happens on the sofa after work, or late at night when the house is quiet, and the hunger has nothing to do with an empty stomach.
This session spends time pausing right there and meeting the feeling directly, without a plate in hand.
What’s in it
A kind way to meet your feelings directly instead of feeding them, and an easy, friendly peace with food.
Why do it
When you can pause and feel what you feel, the reach for food loses its grip, so a few quiet minutes here softens the pattern from the inside.

Why this works — and what the research actually says
Group-level, not session-level: no study has tested this exact session, and we will not pretend otherwise. Every source below was opened and read on 2026-08-25 before it was quoted.
Why do it as hypnosis?
Willpower is unreliable when feelings are loud. This works by giving the noise somewhere else to go. No demand is placed on you to suppress anything or battle a craving.
For a few minutes, you can stay close to the emotion without answering it with food, allowing the reaching habit to soften on its own.
The closest study to what we actually sell — and it found nothing
Most hypnosis research studies a person in a room with a therapist. This one tested a 15-minute audio file, listened to nightly — which is almost exactly what a session here is.
Over three weeks the hypnosis group lost about two thirds of a kilogram and the placebo group lost none, and that gap was not statistically significant. Neither was the main thing the trial set out to measure.
- 46 people, a 15-minute audio file nightly for three weeks
- Hypnosis group −0.63 kg, placebo group 0.0 kg — not a significant difference
- The trial's own primary outcome also came out null
Worth knowing: The authors are direct about why this is not the last word. "The study's low sample size is one of its most significant limitations."
And "based on the actual achieved sample size, the achieved power is 49%" — roughly a coin-flip chance of detecting a real effect even if one existed.
They also note COVID-era recruitment problems, a predominantly educated female sample, and that it "does not generalize to other forms of hypnosis".
The exact wording and figures
In a randomised, double-blinded controlled trial, 46 participants listened nightly for three weeks to either a 15-minute audio self-hypnosis file or a structurally identical placebo file.
Mean weight change was -0.63 ± 0.43 kg in the hypnosis group against 0.0 ± 1.5 kg in the control group (p = 0.148, not significant).
The primary outcome, progression through Transtheoretical Model stages, was also not significant (X²(2,46) = 1.909, p = 0.580).
Published in PeerJ. Included because it is the closest published test of the format this app actually uses, and because a null result in the most relevant study is exactly the thing a reader deserves to see.

Three ways to say it
Meet the moment where you would normally reach for food, and find the voice that lets you hear your feelings instead of just tasting them.
Balanced
Meet your feelings directly, tell true hunger from emotion, and find an easy peace with food. The default.
You meet the feeling, know true hunger, and let food be just food.
Future self
Picture the version of you who is at ease with their feelings and at ease with food.
You spend time with the version of you who is already calm around food.
New identity
Step into being someone who feels what they feel without feeding it, with food as a friend, not a fix.
You practice being someone who feels their feelings without needing to eat.
Questions people ask about Emotional Eating
Will this stop me reaching for food when I'm stressed?
It won't stop the urge, but it helps you pause long enough to notice the difference between hunger and emotion. That pause is where the habit starts to change.
How soon will I see a difference?
Some people feel a shift in the first few tries, but habits take time. It's more about regular practice than immediate results.
What if I fall asleep during it?
That's fine. The session is designed for relaxed listening. You can always play it again when more awake.
Is this just telling me to eat less?
No. It's about noticing why you eat, not how much. The focus is on meeting emotions directly, not on restriction.
How is this different from just trying to distract myself?
Distraction avoids the feeling. This helps you stay with it calmly, so food isn't the only way to quiet it down.
Where it sits
Appetite, habit and body image, worked as behaviour rather than willpower.
Before you press play
Hypnosis is not for everyone. If you have epilepsy, a psychotic illness, or you are under psychiatric care, talk to your clinician before using this — here or anywhere.
